Obtaining a visa for your visit to Bhutan is quick and easy. The entire process only takes a few minutes, and you’ll be all set to enter the Kingdom. We are here to assist you every step of the way.

Your Gateway to Bhutan

Applying for a visa (or permit) to visit Bhutan is a simple and straightforward process, bringing you one step closer to your journey. All travelers require a visa before entering Bhutan, except for citizens of India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, for whom separate processes and fees apply (details provided below). As part of the visa application, you’ll need to pay the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of US$100 per day for each adult, with concessionary rates available for children. To apply for your visa online, ensure you have the following: – A digital copy of a valid passport – A recent digital passport photo – Your arrival and departure dates – Valid travel insurance covering the entire duration of your stay – Payment details Additionally, a non-refundable visa application fee of US$40 must be paid at the time of submission.

Arrive by Air

Bhutan is served by two national airlines: Drukair and Bhutan Airlines. Direct flights to and from Paro International Airport provide easy connections to Bangladesh (Dhaka), India (Bagdogra, Guwahati, Kolkata, and New Delhi), Nepal (Kathmandu), Singapore, and Thailand (Bangkok).

TRAVEL IN THE COUNTRY

Royal Bhutan Helicopter Services Limited (RBHSL) is available for private hire. Originally established for emergency medical evacuations, RBHSL now offers a range of services, including heli-hiking and other guest experiences. These services significantly reduce travel time for long journeys while providing breathtaking aerial views of the kingdom. Please note, helicopter flights are dependent on clear and calm weather conditions.

ARRIVE BY ROAD

There are four official entry points by road from India: Samtse and Phuentsholing (in western Bhutan), Gelephu (in central Bhutan), and Samdrup Jongkhar (in eastern Bhutan).

Travel within Country

Traveling within Bhutan is best done by hiring a vehicle with a driver through car rental companies or tourism services, as self-drive options are unavailable. Four airports connect different regions of Bhutan, with Paro serving as the international hub. Domestic flights may face delays due to Bhutan’s challenging terrain, especially at Yonphula Airport. For a faster option, Royal Bhutan Helicopter Services provides private hire for heli-hiking and scenic trips, though flights depend on weather conditions. It’s recommended to arrange transport through local tour operators or your hotel in advance.
